A satellite television system is a set of equipment for receiving television programs, which are broadcast through special communication satellites located above the equator in geostationary orbits. The simplest satellite television system consists of a satellite dish ("dish"), a converter, and a satellite receiver (tuner). With the help of such a system, you can receive programs from any of the numerous satellites in the coverage area of which we are located, moreover, the satellite antenna should be installed in a southerly direction. Today, mainly offset satellite dishes are used.

offset satellite antennas are shifted focus antennas with an oval reflector shape. These antennas are more modern and popular, as they make it possible to install a second or third converter for receiving 2-3 satellites, depending on their location (if they are nearby). The "mirror" of such a satellite antenna is designed to focus the signal to the converter ("head"). In the converter, the signal is reduced in frequency by the frequency of the converter local oscillator (always indicated on the converter itself) and is transmitted via cable to the satellite receiver (tuner). And already the satellite receiver receives the signal going through the satellite, processes it, decodes it and transmits the actually finished "picture" to the TV.
